Luckily players don't have to go quite so far anymore. They don't even have to make their way to a real life casino. Poker only requires two things: a computer with an internet connection and a set of steely nerves (backed, hopefully, by some decent card playing skills).
There are plenty of sites out there waiting for you to play a game poker. All you need do is sign up for one and download whatever software is required.
If you've played poker offline, you'll know how to play it online. All the rules will generally be the same. For those of you who are new to the world of poker, however, here are a few guidelines:
1. Start with a limit game poker. A game that lacks limits may put you in the hole very quickly and end your poker days before they've even begun. Work your way up from there.
2. Be patient. Don't rush into high risk games; be sure to hone your skills first. Don't forget that you're likely to be playing against veterans who know what they're doing and will quickly peg you as a novice.
3. Learn one variation at a time. Master each one as best you can before moving on to the next. You'll start getting confused by the variations if you jump from one brand of game to the next in rapid succession.
4. Have fun! At its heart this is still a game. Whether for high stakes or low you should still enjoy yourself. The more you do, the more you'll relax, and the more likely you are to win. And don't forget that a loss is not the end of the world; if you're beaten, pick yourself up and try again.
