Poker rule
Whether played online or off the goal of poker is the same. The player must win the accumulated pot at the end of a given hand of play, either by holding the best hand out of all the players or by forcing the rest of the players out of the hand by constantly raising the stakes of the pot. The pot holds money put in during the hand, which includes antes that seed the pot prior to each hand.
Each hand sees a new player awarded the pot. The dealer doles out the cards based on whatever poker rule happens to be enforced during that game. Each player may then, proceeding around the table according to the poker rule, check or bet. When a player registers an opening bid the next player in a clockwise motion must do one of three things:
1. Raise. The player increases the bet, forcing other players to contribute more on subsequent bets. A continuation of the raise rule is the re-raise, which is raising a prior raise.
2. Call. The player remains in the hand by tossing in an amount of chips equal to the current bet.
3. Fold. Done by poker players with poor hands or little money, folding means the player is out of that hand. Players who fold often and early seldom rule by the end of the day.
The betting ceases when all players calling the biggest bet have done so, or if all players but one have folded. If more than one player is left at the end they have a showdown and display their cards; whoever has the higher hand wins the pot, and all the money contained therein. The others players display their hands in a clockwise fashion. However if a player knows they have lost they can acknowledge defeat and refuse to show what they had.
